DVA Psychiatric Assessments

Navigating a psychiatric assessment can feel overwhelming — especially when it means revisiting difficult experiences.

At I’ve Got Your 6 Foundation (IGY6), we walk alongside you through the entire process, ensuring you feel prepared, supported, and understood every step of the way.

  • Our structured pathway means:

    • You are mentally and emotionally prepared before your assessment
    • Your story is captured once, respectfully and clinically
    • You are not required to repeat everything again
    • You have ongoing support after your assessment
  • 1. Preparation with a Psychologist (Minimum 2 Sessions)

We take the time to understand you — not just your symptoms.
    • Build trust and psychological safety
    • Understand your service and life experiences
    • Begin emotional regulation strategies
    • Prepare you for what to expect
  • name
  • 2. Clinical Report Prepared for the Psychiatrist

Your psychologist prepares a structured clinicalsummary so you don’t have to start from scratch.
    • Your story is documented clearly
    • The psychiatrist is properly informed
    • You avoid unnecessary repetition

A valid D904 referral from your GP is required.

  • 3. Independent Psychiatric Assessment (DVA)

You attend a psychiatrist who will:
    • Conduct your assessment
    • Provide a formal report
    • Bill under DVA arrangements
  • 4. Follow-Up Support (Minimum 1 Session)

You don’t get left on your own after the report. We bring you back in to:
    • Explain the report in plain language
    • Support your emotional response
    • Help you understand next steps
  • Ongoing Support (Optional)

You can continue working with your psychologist to:
    • Process outcomes
    • Build coping strategies
    • Reconnect with purpose and direction

I was worried it would be clinical and confronting, but it was actually supportive, structured, and easier than I thought it would be.

There’s a lot of emotion tied to these assessments. The preparation and follow-up support helped both of us feel more grounded and less overwhelmed.
